The book Jaypee’s Video Atlas of Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Clinical Embryology provides an illustrative description of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and clinical embryology. The book discusses about the common requirement such as basic infrastructure, common protocols, culture media, incubator and modular IVF Facility for for setting up an ART center. Embryo transfer (ET) is a procedure of the harvesting of mature oocyte cumulus complexes and transferring the embryo through transvaginal ultrasound-guided aspiration. Embryo culture, oocyte, insemination and Denudation, and fertilization are associated with complications like multifetal pregnancies and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Basics of intracytoplasmic sperm injection, surgical sperm retrieval techniques and semen preparation for intrauterine insemination are discussed. Sperm preparation is done to select the best spermatozoa and remove the seminal plasma and dead spermatozoa. Ovarian stimulation regimen for in vitro fertilization (IVF) should have a low cancellation rate of the cycles, minimal drug costs, low risks and adverse effects and require limited monitoring for convenience. Cryopreservation allows the transfer embryos in the uterus and the storage of the remaining embryos for future use thereby maximizing the cumulative effectiveness of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle. It allows embryo vitrification, oocyte, embryo and semen and ovarian cortex freezing and thawing. Laser, intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection, ultrasound as well as endoscopy in ART are described.
